Unpleasant Animated Surprises

"What the -- whoa."

Marty stared at the VHS he held in his hand. He'd picked it up because the bright color of the box had piqued his interest. He'd been expecting some kiddy cartoon, with silly characters and bright colors and lots of nostalgia.

What he hadn't been expecting was two guys who looked like him and Doc on the cover.

Granted, the guy who looked like him had his hair hidden under a hat, but considering he was standing right next to a cartoon Doc and in front of a DeLorean, Marty was fairly certain it was supposed to be him. There were two kids on the cover as well -- a blond and a brunet. Marty frowned curiously -- hadn't Doc mentioned something about his movie self ending up with two kids? And on top of it all was the logo and title: "BACK TO THE FUTURE -- Clara's Folks & Brothers." "Hey, Doc, come check this out!"

Doc wandered over. "What is it?"

Marty showed him. "How weird is this? They made a cartoon out of us!"

Doc stared, taking the VHS. "Great Scott. . ." He flipped it over. "'Back to the Future: The Animated Series.' Well, I guess it makes sense, considering how popular those movies seem to be. . ."

Marty rooted through the shelf. "There's a couple of others, Doc. 'A Friend In Deed & The Money Tree,' 'Mac The Black & St. Louis Blues' -- Oh geez, I'm a pirate in this one."

"You're a what?"

Marty showed him the cover, with Cartoon-Marty posing in full pirate gear. "These look goofy as hell." He laughed. "Is it bad that makes me want to watch them?"

"I'll admit, I'm curious as to what this cartoon's all about," Doc admitted with a chuckle of his own. "Gather them up and we'll take 'em back to my room. If nothing else, they should be amusing."

"Hell yeah." Marty scanned the shelf and grabbed the other VHSes he could find. "Man, us as cartoons. . .this should be good."

After Watching The Episodes

"Is that everything?"

"Everything I want to take with me, yeah." Marty glances up and over at Fred as he zips up his duffel bag. "I'm all packed."

Fred shakes his head. "I still can't believe you're moving out. And leaving Hill Valley to boot. You're sure you want to do this?"

"I'm sure," Marty tells him, conviction clear in his voice. "Look, you guys and the bar have been great. I can't thank you enough for taking me in and explaining everything to me when I got back. But lately. . . ." He shakes his head. "Hill Valley's got way too many painful memories. And I know I'm not the kind of guy who could kill his fetch to get his life back. I think it's better to just go ahead and move on."

"I can respect that -- I did much the same," Fred admits. He holds out a hand. "So -- good luck out there."

"Thanks. I'll be back to say hello, don't worry," Marty promises, shaking. "And I'll send along a letter every once in a while."

"Maybe I'll come visit you too, if I can," Fred says.

Marty briefly freezes, then recovers. "Okay -- just give me a little time to get settled." He smiles, rather melancholy. "I'll -- I'll see you later, then. Much later."

"Right," Fred says. "Goodbye Marty. Stay safe, okay?"

"Can't make any promises, but I'll try." They shake hands one last time, then Marty grabs his duffel bag and heads out. He pauses briefly by the back door to say a final goodbye to the owner, then it's out into the streets.

He walks until he can round the corner and get out of sight. Then he sighs deeply and holds up his wrist, looking at his PINpoint. He feels a bit bad about leaving -- he'd had some good times in Darkness Falls, and Fred in particular had become a rather good friend. But his best friends needed him a lot closer -- and he needed them. After everything that happened with Victor and Alice, not to mention Dee and Doc's little moment, that was extremely obvious. And it really wasn't like he couldn't go back and visit when he wanted. Though he was going to have to figure out what to tell Fred about him visiting Marty. . . .

Later, though. Right now, he has some moving to do. Marty punches in the code and PINpoints out.

He lands right in the courtyard of the apartment complex his friends are staying in. Smiling, he heads in the nearest door. "Hey," he calls, just in case anyone can hear him.

"I'm home."

Christmas Presents

Although it's technically summer where he is, Marty's still got plenty of Christmas spirit. If he can, he has a few gifts to deliver:

To John (hart_on_sleeve), he's giving a pair of thick gloves (the guy seems to need them lately). Alina's getting a cute pink hoodie Marty found.

To Clark (kalel_ofkrypton), he's giving a bag of meteor fragments. Marty basically wanted to give him the goofiest Superman-related bit of merchandise he could find.

As for his other friends: Doc will be getting a book on quantum physics Marty found; Victor will be getting a VHS of some of Bugs Bunny's best cartoons; Alice will be getting a Disney Alice figurine (he wants to see what she makes of it); and Dee's getting a set of Legos.

Other friends will be getting other trinkets if/when he sees them. (Otherwise known as a catch-all for anyone I may have left out.)

OOC: Dear Santa Meme

Dear Santa...

Dear Santa,

This year I've been busy!

Last Sunday on a flight to Colorado Springs, I stole the emergency flight information card (-40 points). Last Wednesday I pulled over and changed thosetwoturrets's flat tire (15 points). Last week I gave docsgirl a wet willie, then I took it back (-5 points). Last Monday I put money in clockwork_doc's expired parking meter (14 points). In October I gave mslucysleeches a life-saving blood transfusion (50 points).

Overall, I've been nice (34 points). For Christmas I deserve a new dolly!

If anyone DESERVES a wet willy, it's my mun.

But yeah, I've been good. I hope "dolly" includes action figures or something -- I'd rather have a GI Joe than a Wet-Me Susan or whatever they've got out there.

E-Mail/Nexus: Helping Out Victor

Hey, Doc:

I caught up with Frostbite over here in the Nexus. She told me that Victor's been having some nasty nightmares recently. Apparently he's not sleeping well (or maybe at all) and she's worried about his health. I'm kinda worried too, Doc. Do you think you can check up on him?

Subject: Hey, Finally Figured This Out

Hey Doc!

Found myself with some free time, so I scooted over to the Nexus and found out how to work that "e-mail" stuff you told me about. This internet thing looks completely awesome. I can't wait for Hill Valley to catch up.

I'm doing all right back home. I'm living in the back of the Darkness Falls bar -- the owner, Roger, gives me a room and meals in exchange for me helping out around the place. It's not a bad gig, I guess. Still really miss home, but -- I still have no idea what to do. I've asked some of the Changeling customers, and half of them never even knew their fetches. The others say that -- confronting them didn't work too well. And the last thing I want is anybody getting hurt. . . .

I guess I can't complain overall. I've got a roof over my head and food provided, which was more than I had when I first arrived. I just -- really miss my old life. And my guitar. I gotta see about getting some money, buying a new one. . . .

Anyway, how are things in Chicago? Still crazy?

NEXUS: Catching Up To Do (playercest)

(Follows from here: Frostbite Reunites Doc and Marty)

The little diner Frostbite took Doc to during her brief human LOL isn't too far from the sign. Marty looks around as he enters the place. "Looks cool -- kind of old-fashioned, though," he says, smiling a little. "Kind of like those pictures of Lou's Cafe Mom and Dad showed me once."

His smile fades a little as he thinks about his family. All that waiting, and then. . . . He glances back at his friend. How the hell is he going to tell him what happened? Glad as he is to see Doc, this is probably going to be kind of an awkward conversation.

OOC: Two Surveys

Both taken from docsgirl -- after I did them there, I figured it would be a good idea to repost them here for character/backstory purposes. First is a 14-question quiz answered in-character as Marty:
Talking About Life, Love, and the PursuitCollapse )

And a second 20-question one that seems to have an odd emphasis on sex:
Ever Want To Know His Quirks in Bed?Collapse )

OOC: Useless Meme

Um. Okay. No wonder they call it a "useless" quiz.
